When everything feels like it's shaking...

Hey Reader,

I have begun to focus on The LORD our Refuge. That means He is our security, provider, mercy and our peace. After watching so much of the news this summer of all the earthquakes and the big Nepal flood it made me think of this Psalm.

Psalm 46
God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
3 Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah

Have you ever felt like your whole world was shaking?

The LORD is our present help in times of trouble. Whatever is going on we have to keep our focus on Jesus.

Perhaps your shaking is a child making choices you can’t control or a relationship that feels uncertain. A situation you’ve prayed about over and over.

I was reminded of the disciples in Luke 8. They were in a boat during a violent storm, and they were terrified.

Jesus?

He was asleep.

Same boat. Same storm. Disciples are frightened and Jesus is asleep.

When they woke Him, Jesus spoke to the wind and waves: “Peace, be still.”

And everything changed.

Reader, you may not be able to control the storm. You may not be able to control your child's choices. You may not be able to control what happens tomorrow.

But you can pray.

And you can keep your eyes on Jesus.

He is still your refuge. He is still with you. And He is still the Prince of Peace.

I talked more about this in today's episode of the Praying Mama Club Podcast. Podcast can be found on Spotify and on Apple Podcast, here is the YouTube link.

When the World Shakes: Finding Peace in Jesus

Whatever is shaking around you today, remember: Jesus is in the boat.

And He is your Refuge.

In September I changed from a calendar format devotional scriptures to a list. Get yours here, this month we are Moving Forward in Faith.

Hey Reader, Trusting God for Direction When You Don’t Know What to Do If you've ever traveled with children, you’ve probably heard that question more than once. Are we there yet? How much longer? But honestly, don’t we sometimes ask God the similar questions? “Am I where I am supposed to be?”“Am I going in the right direction?”“What am I to do next?” We have dreams and places we want to go. But is that where the Lord wants us? Are we in the right job, living in the right city? Who should I...

Hey Reader, Put Feet to Your Faith: How to Be a Doer of the Word You know when you've been worrying about something for so long that you finally say, “Okay, enough thinking and fretting about this. I need to do something!” Maybe you've been praying about something, but you can’t stop feeling fretful over the situation. You've studied what God's Word says about it. You've memorized the Scripture. You've thought about it over and over, but the fretful thoughts keep coming. There comes a point...

Hey Reader, Have you ever just had so much going on that you just couldn’t do another thing and the things you were in rhythm to were totally out of sync. I remember a crazy busy season of our pastor's life that on Monday evening (after work at my full time job) I crashed on the couch and said take me away somewhere we don’t have to drive or pack up and repack. No road trip - from hotel to hotel. My next statement was something like, if I wouldn’t need a passport I’d want a cruise. My son...
