Who are you praying for?

Hey Reader,

Do you have someone you have been praying for? You have been standing in the gap, going to the Throne of Grace in their time of need.

Hebrews 4:16 Do you have someone you have been praying for? You have been standing in the gap, going to the Throne of Grace in their time of need.

My heart has been praying for my adult son for years.

He has hit bottom so many times I thought he couldn't fall any farther then there would be another trip around his mountain. This time he is actually reaching out for the God I taught him about so many years ago. I told him I was proud of him, even though he is still between some rocks and hard places. He said, "yeah, but the rocks still hurt."

I am watching God move on his behalf and he is noticing too.

But you may be praying for a husband, sister, or stranger, whoever you are praying for this message is for you.

There is a particular kind of pain that comes with loving and praying for an adult child.

You love them deeply.

You've prayed for them.

And yet, you have to watch them make choices that you know aren't good for them.

Sometimes you want to say,

"If you would just listen to me..."

"If you would just come back to God..."

"If you would just see what I see..."

But they're adults.

And that makes it hard.

Because you can love them.

You can pray for them.

You can speak truth to them.

But you cannot make their choices for them.

And that can leave a mama carrying a tremendous burden.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately.

What if part of learning to pray with power is learning to release the person we're praying for?

Not release them from our love.

Not stop caring.

Not stop praying.

But release our need to control the outcome.

We can say:

"Lord, I cannot change my child. But You can."

"I cannot see what You see. But You can."

"I cannot go where my child is. But You can."

"I cannot control their choices. But I can trust You with them."

That's a different kind of prayer.

It's surrender.

And surrender doesn't mean giving up.

Surrender means putting someone into hands more capable than yours.

Jesus said, Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)

Hard part is releasing our loved ones to the Lord.

Because sometimes the hardest part of praying for an adult child isn't knowing what to say.

It's learning how to give them back to God.

And then turn our attention back to the LORD.

If you've been carrying your child's choices like they are your responsibility, I want to encourage you to listen to this week's episode.

You may not be able to change your child.

But you can change how you carry the burden.

And Mama, you don't have to carry it alone.

Know God.
Think His Way.
Pray With Power.

Everything changes when you know God.

Hey Reader, Trusting God for Direction When You Don’t Know What to Do If you've ever traveled with children, you’ve probably heard that question more than once. Are we there yet? How much longer? But honestly, don’t we sometimes ask God the similar questions? “Am I where I am supposed to be?”“Am I going in the right direction?”“What am I to do next?” We have dreams and places we want to go. But is that where the Lord wants us? Are we in the right job, living in the right city? Who should I...

Hey Reader, Put Feet to Your Faith: How to Be a Doer of the Word You know when you've been worrying about something for so long that you finally say, “Okay, enough thinking and fretting about this. I need to do something!” Maybe you've been praying about something, but you can’t stop feeling fretful over the situation. You've studied what God's Word says about it. You've memorized the Scripture. You've thought about it over and over, but the fretful thoughts keep coming. There comes a point...

Hey Reader, Have you ever just had so much going on that you just couldn’t do another thing and the things you were in rhythm to were totally out of sync. I remember a crazy busy season of our pastor's life that on Monday evening (after work at my full time job) I crashed on the couch and said take me away somewhere we don’t have to drive or pack up and repack. No road trip - from hotel to hotel. My next statement was something like, if I wouldn’t need a passport I’d want a cruise. My son...
